I heard a song on the raido and my ears pricked up in excitement.

The track was by Dr. John with Randy Newman on guest vocals. The drumming was just simply superb. Really down to earth with a great groove, no frills, no bull, just great groove.

The drum sound was damn awesome too. It was the sound I always search for on a track... I knew Dr. John was a bit of a funky mother, but didn't realise how funky until I heard this. From what I can work out, the drummers on the album are Herman V. Ernest III and Earl Palmer. I have no idea who was playing on this particular song, but I've just ordered the album so I'll no doubt find out...

Ahhh, yes, Dr. John! The man released some SERIOUS stuff. I recommend the albums "Gumbo" and "In The Right Place". The "Gumbo" disc has a lot of great New Orleans second-line type stuff on it, especially noteworthy in the first track, Iko Iko. "In The Right Place", on the other hand, has some downright SILLY grooves on it. And why wouldn't it? The band backing up Dr. John on that album is none other than the funky, funky, funky METERS. Very highly recommended stuff, ya gotta check it out for sure.

God bless The Meters. I believe I heard one of their live albums. Funky stuff that really rocked my socks.

Please...more musical titles for this style of play. I missed the "Dr. John" New Orleans phase musically and need to get educated.

Anyone willing to put a "Best Of" CD together for trade with this style of music???
